The People's Choice award went to Oasis because they had collected more votes across all the categories than any other act, 230,000 in all. Coldplay took Best Act in the World Today, and Gorillaz won Best Video and Best Producer.

The Met Bar, in the Metropolitan Hotel, was a celebrity haunt of the Britpop years. Here is Liam at the foot of the steps behind a red rope, in a blue grey zip coat, jeans and white trainers.</image:caption>

The sessions were a series of acoustic concerts at the Union Chapel in Islington in aid of Mencap, hosted by Jo Whiley. She shared the bill that night with Mika and Bat for Lashes.

Reports of the night said her set drew heavily on the new album, including Rehab, Back to Black and Love Is a Losing Game, and that she also played two Donny Hathaway songs, We're Still Friends and I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know.

Here she sings in a white vest top with braces, red light on the chapel's decoration behind her.</image:caption>

A wider view shows the true scale of the scene: fewer than ten photographers, no crowd, no disorder, directly contradicting claims of a large, hostile scrum.

Prince Harry was seated inside the car following the altercation, hand to head. The adrenaline has passed; the incident is already over.

Chris Uncle moments after the incident. Earlier that same evening, he had also been assaulted elsewhere making this an especially unfortunate night.

Departure. No further confrontation follows. The narrative, however, would soon take a different direction.

<image:caption>A Tatler profile published in December 2008, shortly after I began contracting at the News of the World. The language reflects the era: speed, access, and competitive pressure framed as glamour rather than risk.

Behind the scenes of tabloid acquisition. Images circulated rapidly between photographers, picture desks, and editors long before publication, attribution, or public scrutiny.

Social proximity as professional currency. Events, after-parties, and informal spaces were often where access was established well before cameras were raised.

The photographer as both observer and participant. By 2008, the boundaries between documentation, intrusion, and performance were already under strain.</image:caption>
